Decorating with Houseplants

(via Cote de Texas)
Plants improve the air quality in a home, add an element of natural beauty, and bring a room to life.  They can fill an empty corner, create balance and height, or simply provide a bit of much needed colour and texture.

Lovely, lush foliage rounds out a room's design.  But, as with any decor accessory, less is more.  Here are a few examples of how to successfully add a touch of greenery indoors.

If your home feels like it's missing that 'certain something', consider adding a few well chosen houseplants.

You'll be pleasantly surprised to discover how such a simple and often overlooked decor accessory can provide that perfect finishing touch!

Decorative Ceiling Tiles offers nail-up tiles in three distinctive materials:

Tin Coated Steel – these tiles are very similar to the tin ceiling tiles that have been in use for decades in homes of just about any architectural style. Tin tiles are the most budget-friendly of the three varieties of nail-up tiles, but they require painting from both sides to preserve their timeless beauty. Spray application is preferable due to the intricacies of most designs.

Aluminum – nail-up aluminum ceiling tiles are available in a mill finish that can be painted at your home to match your room’s décor or choose one of the more than 75 prefinished colors that allow you to complete your ceiling in one easy step. Colors range from chocolate to emerald and just about anything you can imagine in-between. Aluminum tiles cost a little more than tin tiles, but are still priced to fit just about any budget.

Copper – whether you’re after the appearance of aged elegance or casual comfort, it may be difficult to beat the look of Decorative Ceiling Tile’s copper and aged copper nail-up ceiling tiles. The tiles are solid copper and just like the tin and the aluminum tiles, are available in over 200 patterns that are sure to match almost any décor. Copper tiles are the most expensive of the nail-up varieties, but they’re still very affordable when remodeling an average sized room.

So you have an ugly popcorn ceiling and are searching for ways to cover it up without having to scrape it because you know how messy that gets.  There are some other ways to cover a popcorn ceiling but if you are looking for the most affordable, easiest and fastest way to do so then Styrofoam Ceiling Tiles are the way to go.

Beautiful Backyard Retreats

I've always dreamed of having an elegant stone patio surrounded by lovely shade trees and fragrant gardens.

Such beauty requires deep pockets, above average stone laying skills and a very green thumb.  I happen to possess none of these fine qualities, but, a girl can still dream...

Here are a few of my favorite backyard retreats I'd be more than happy to call home.

What's your vision of a perfect backyard retreat?

Classic Dining Room Decor Update

I have to confess... I'm a TRADITIONAL GIRL at heart.  I love a tailored, classic design style, with a few chic and modern touches thrown in for a bit of sparkle and interest.

I purchased these suede grommet panels almost five years ago when we first moved to our newly built home.  I wanted them to blend in to the existing wall colour, and allow the view to take center stage.

To soften their vertical lines, I made and added simple tiebacks from leftover fabric.  The look is a bit more traditional, but without appearing too formal or stuffy.  What do you think?

I also made a few changes to my dining room tablescape.  This is my lovely new orchid.  Our home has at least one live plant in every room.  For me, fresh flowers and greenery make a space so much more inviting.

Even though the pics are terrible (the sun refuses to come out and play), I wanted to share these little updates with you.  The space feels softer and more elegant now.  Isn't it funny how small changes can make us feel happy inside?

As a Mommy's Day gift, my son and hubby are installing crown moulding in the kitchen, dining room and living room for me.  I can't wait!

Have you made any small changes in your home lately?  I hope they make you feel happy, too!
